You may be familiar with an old hymn that beautifully expresses the connection between the natural world and its Creator: “This is my Father’s world, / And to my listening ears, / All nature sings, and round me rings / The music of the spheres. / This is my Father’s world, / He shines in all that’s fair; / In the rustling grass, I hear him pass, / He speaks to me everywhere” (Maltbie D. Babcock, “This Is My Father’s World”; 1901). This sentiment rings true even today, as “all nature sings.” Yet, amid the cacophony of modern life, capturing that melody has become increasingly challenging.

Nowadays, the tranquility of nature's voice is often overshadowed by the relentless noise of traffic and various electronic devices. For individuals who venture outside for walks or jogs, it’s common to don gadgets that keep them connected to news, music, or podcasts. Consequently, whether intentionally or not, they inadvertently mute the sounds of nature, dulling its influence in their lives.

This reality brings me to the core message of this book. I celebrate the “green” movement, which has awakened millions to the awe of creation and the critical need to care for it with passion. This awareness marks a significant step forward, transforming what could easily become mere sentimental feelings into meaningful action. However, my aspiration extends beyond mere awareness.

I encourage us not only to appreciate and express gratitude for the wonders of nature but also to delve deeper into its profound lessons. Nature's exquisite beauty can teach us invaluable insights about life and about God. When nature sings—perpetually—it invites us to encounter the divine, provided we tune in with our entire being.
